<<< Previous | Operation |
If the seti@home client has not been started previously, certain information must be first collected and then sent to the seti@home server. This information is required to set up an account to use the seti@home servers.
Upon clicking the radar dish (to start the client) or clicking the 'Start seti' popup menu item (right click the applet), the user will be presented with a message as shown in the following figure.
Upon dismissing this message box (click the 'OK' button), the user is presented with the property box as shown in the following figure:
If the user already has an account with the seti@home server, the only input required in this property box is an email address (then click the 'OK' or 'Apply' buttons).
If the user does not have an account with the seti@home server, click the 'New user' check box. The property box shown in the image below will be displayed.
The compulsory fields in this property box are the 'Email address', 'Country of use' and 'Client location' fields. Upon completing at least the required fields, a click of the 'OK' or 'Apply' buttons will start the seti@home client processing proper.
The seti@home process can be started (once the correct directories are setup) by right clicking on the seti-applet and selecting the 'Start seti...' menu option. The little radar dish should change from red to green to indicate the seti client is running. Another method of starting the seti client (new for version 0.3.0) is by clicking the left mouse button on the little radar dish within the applet.
Stopping the seti client is achieved by right clicking on the seti-applet (when the radar dish is green or flashing red and green) and clicking on the 'Stop seti...' menu option. The little radar dish should change from green to red to indicate the client has stopped. Another method of stopping the seti client is by clicking the left mouse button on the little radar dish within the applet.
If the radar dish flashes red and green when the seti process is started it indicates that: either the working directory is incorrectly set up OR the seti client is trying to contact the master server to upload or retrieve a new work unit.
